CLDP Hosts Consultations for Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards in Washington D.C.

CLDP hosted standards experts from the governments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan for U.S.-based consultations to assist in developing trade-related harmonized standards in Central Asia and benefit domestic and international businesses alike through increased market access, transparent system, and fair regulations.

Forth Meeting of the Central Asia-Afghanistan Regional Expert Level Working Group on Standards

The Fourth Meeting of the CLDP-facilitated Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards, February 20-22, 2017, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, featured the full attendance and participation of government officials from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

CLDP Supports the Forth Meeting of the Central Asia/Afghanistan SPS Working Group

As part of CLDP’s effort to further serve the goals of the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) and the U.S. Government inter-agency New Silk Road Initiative, CLDP has undertaken to support and develop Central Asia-Afghanistan Working Groups on Customs, Standards, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures. Pursuant to this effort, CLDP facilitated the fourth meeting of the SPS Expert Level Central Asia-Afghanistan Working Group in Rome, Italy on June 21-23, 2016, in coordination with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) based in Rome, Italy. Participants included customs officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

CLDP Supports the Meeting of Central Asia-Afghanistan SPS Working Group

CLDP organized the meetings of the SPS Working Group in Istanbul, Turkey in November 2015. Over twenty participants included SPS officials from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

3rd Meeting of the Afghanistan-Central Asia Working Group on Standards

CLDP helped organize a third Meeting of the Afghanistan-Central Asia Working Group on Standards in Washington, D.C. on November 12-13, 2015 and November 16-17, 2015. The program focused on energy efficiency and included presentations on the national priorities of each respective country, a discussion with U.S. companies and Standards Developers interested in investment within the region, and site visits to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the U.S. Department of Energy.

On June 10-12, 2015, in Astana, Kazakhstan, CLDP lead the meeting and workshop of the Afghanistan/Central Asia regional Customs, Standards, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures Working Groups, to support the goals of the U.S. inter-agency New Silk Road (NSR) initiative and the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
