CLDP to facilitate the Sixth Meeting of the Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards in Tbilisi, Georgia

As part of the U.S. government’s objective to promote economic expansion and stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), CLDP has been facilitating regional working groups on Customs, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, and Standards. CLDP is organizing the Sixth Meeting of the Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards to take place in Tbilisi, Georgia on June 6-8, 2018.

CLDP organized the Sixth Meeting of the Central Asia-Afghanistan Regional Expert Level Working Group on SPS Issues to take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on March 14-16, 2018.

CLDP Participates in the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Annual Meetings

CLDP Attorney Michael Cofield participated in the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement annual meetings on December 11-13, 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. On Monday, December 11, 2017, CLDP briefed the TIFA-level Working Groups on the work and results of the CLDP-facilitated Expert Level Working Groups on customs issues, standards, and sanitary/phytosanitary measures.

CLDP Hosts Consultations for Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards in Washington D.C.

CLDP hosted standards experts from the governments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan for U.S.-based consultations to assist in developing trade-related harmonized standards in Central Asia and benefit domestic and international businesses alike through increased market access, transparent system, and fair regulations.

The Fourth Meeting of the CLDP-facilitated Central Asia-Afghanistan Expert Level Working Group on Standards, February 20-22, 2017, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, featured the full attendance and participation of government officials from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

CLDP Supports the Forth Meeting of the Central Asia/Afghanistan SPS Working Group

As part of CLDP’s effort to further serve the goals of the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) and the U.S. Government inter-agency New Silk Road Initiative, CLDP has undertaken to support and develop Central Asia-Afghanistan Working Groups on Customs, Standards, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures. Pursuant to this effort, CLDP facilitated the fourth meeting of the SPS Expert Level Central Asia-Afghanistan Working Group in Rome, Italy on June 21-23, 2016, in coordination with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) based in Rome, Italy. Participants included customs officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
