As part of its ongoing support to the Government of Ukraine in their effort to adopt legislation and implementing measures for intellectual property enforcement as called for in the WTO TRIPS Agreement, CLDP held a workshop to increase the capacity within the State Customs Service of Ukraine to implement practical measures to better enforce IP protection and to improve cooperation between the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine.

CLDP coordinated a consultative visit to Washington, DC for the Ukraine WTO Information Processing Center. The delegationmet with key USG officials to discuss its WTO obligations.

An integral part of CLDP’s assistance is the reform of Ukraine’s intellectual property (IP) regime. At the request of the State Department of Intellectual Property of Ukraine (SDIP), CLDP, in coordination with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), held a U.S.-based consultation for SDIP officials in November 2005 on the U.S. appellate process for patent and trademark appeals. The program sought to acquaint Ukrainian IP officials with the substantive and administrative principles and processes of IP appellate proceedings. Building upon the November 2005 consultations, CLDP and USPTO officials traveled to Ukraine to conduct exercises and mock trials with a larger group of Ukrainian IP officials.

As part of CLDP's ongoing support of Russia and Ukraine's efforts to make the protection of intellectual property rights under their Commercial Codes more compliant with the TRIPS Agreement, CLDP conducted a five-day workshop for Russian and Ukrainian border enforcement officials nominated by the Russian and Ukrainian State Customs Services.
