CLDP Helps Bahrain Develop a Three-Stage Program to Increase Transparency in Corporate Governance and Enhance SME Access to Financing

On February 25 and 26, 2007, over 200 participants attended the seminar and roundtable discussions organized by CLDP in cooperation with the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, Bahrain Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Bahrain Economic Development Board, Bahrain Labor Fund, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Bahrain Labor Markets Reform Authority to increase transparency in corporate governance and enhance small and medium sized enterprise (SME) access to financing.

U.S. Study Tour for Egyptian Commercial Attaches

Over a two-week period in Washington, DC and New York, NY, 15 Egyptian commercial attachés met with various USG officials, professional associations, and private sector representatives to discuss trade promotion and policy and foreign investment issues.

Annual Meeting of the Association of American Law Schools

CLDP sponsored the visit of two faculty members from Qatar University Law School and two faculty members from Sultan Qaboos University Law School to participate in the American Association of Law Schools (AALS) annual meeting in Washington DC.

Administrative Reform Study Tour

CLDP sponsored a one-day program of consultations for a delegation from Yemen that included Yemen's Minister of Civil Service and Insurance and the Minister of Finance. The day focused on state government and administrative reform and included an appointment with the Maryland Secretary of State, Mary Kane, and was a part of a greater study tour organized by the World Bank.

Judicial Capacity Building Seminar

In December 2006, CLDP in coordination with the Yemen Ministry of Justice presented a two-day workshop in Sana'a, Yemen focusing on contract law standards.

The Judiciary and SMEs that Encounter Temporary Difficulties

With the expansion of the Jordanian economy, judges are facing increasingly more complex cases having to do with small and medium sized enterprises. Jordan is working to reform some of the commercial law to reflect the new business environment, and CLDP is helping to prepare judges in their new roles. The three-day workshop organized by CLDP focused on bankruptcy, the role of mediation, and the process of reorganizing businesses.
