Commercial Law Regional Conference in Qatar

MEPI sponsored a commercial law conference in Doha, Qatar on March 13 & 14, 2006 to address commercial legal reforms in the Middle East. "Commercial Law in Transition" was presented by the US Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in conjunction with the Qatar Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Qatar Ministry of Justice. This conference brought international commercial law experts and regional policy makers together to discuss the application of international standards in commercial laws.

Law School Development Consultations in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar

CLDP brought two senior US law school administrators to Qatar University, the University of Bahrain and Sultan Qaboos University College of Law in Oman to support these universities in implementing modern commercial law curricula. The US experts consulted with law faculty and administrators on both human resources and planning for future courses and instructional mechanisms for commercial law education.

Conference on Electronic Signatures in Cairo, Egypt

CLDP designed a two-day conference in Cairo for 100 Egyptian judges to participate in presentations by Egyptian, American and European experts on the application of Egypt’s electronic signature law and regulations.

Judicial workshop on Reorganizing SMEs under Bankruptcy Laws

In response to a request from the Tunisian Ministry of Justice, CLDP, in close cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Tunis, has developed a judicial capacity building program focused on the judicial reorganization of small business, which, though viable, experience financial difficulties.

Legislative Drafting Assistance for Bahrain Company Law in Bahrain

Bahrain's new Commercial Companies Law is an example of a legislative reform CLDP has been able to accomplish in the Middle East. CLDP continues to implement a program to finalize this new law addressing company regulation in Bahrain.

NY Convention on Arbitral Awards Advisor - Phase I

CLDP experts advised the United Arab Emirates on the value of accession to the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. Providing this specific type of advice, which seeks to quantify and promote the value accession, is just one of CLDP's programs that is specifically targeted towards encouraging commercial law fixes to barriers to trade liberalization in the Middle East.

Commercial Law Seminar for Judges in Manama

CLDP conducted a judicial commercial law conference to educate the judiciary on the new Company Law that the Bahrain Ministry of Industry and Commerce is currently drafting. The conference featured speakers from government, academia, private law firms and international organizations to discuss recent international commercial law developments.
