West Bank: CLDP Hosts Franchise Workshop with Current and Prospective Investors

On April 10, CLDP, in cooperation with U.S. Commercial Service and the Ministry of National Economy, hosted a consultation with current franchisees of local and foreign brands, as well as prospective franchise investors. The workshop provided a primer on how to attract foreign franchises, the franchise business model, and current trends and investment outlooks of major US and foreign brands in the Middle East. Participants also learned about how to benefit from participating in key franchise expos, specifically the International Franchise Expo in New York this May 2018. For their part, investors shared information on commercial and legal factors impacting the development of the franchise industry in the West Bank.

On July 20, 2018, CLDP, in coordination with the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, “Sakpatenti,” conducted a one-day training for 27 Georgian journalists and other representatives of the media in Batumi, Georgia. Judge Bernice Donald, U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Judge Oliver Schön of the District Court of Munich led the training and provided a general overview of intellectual property law, highlighting recent trends and developments in the U.S. and the E.U.
