Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution

October 30, 2017 - October 31, 2017

From October 30-31, CLDP will organize a workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) for 127 judicial candidates in Baku, Azerbaijan. The workshop will be held in coordination with the Azerbaijan Justice Academy as part of its one-year curriculum for judicial candidates. The objective of the workshop is to provide an overview of ADR and the role of judges in the ADR process, including pre-trial conferencing, referrals to different types of ADR mechanisms, and enforcement of settlement agreements. The Hon. Barrington D. Parker, a United States Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York, and the Hon. J. Paul Oetken, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, will serve as experts for the workshop.

Azerbaijan has one of the lowest judge-to-population ratios in the region, and this workshop is part of a multi-phase effort by CLDP and US Embassy Baku on judicial capacity building in Azerbaijan focusing on judicial candidates.
