DR: Workshop on Government Procurement for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response

December 6, 2017 - December 7, 2017

From December 6-7, in coordination with the Dominican General Directorate for Public Contracting (DGCP), CLDP will conduct a workshop on government procurement for disaster preparedness and emergency response for approximately 50 representatives of Dominican government institutions responsible for citizen security, including the National Police and the National 911 Emergency and Security System. The workshop aims to build on CLDP's workshop in June 2017 for the same citizen security institutions, with an increased focus on disaster preparedness and emergency response in light of the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria on the Dominican Republic. CLDP will call upon the expertise of a former FEMA and Peace Corps contracting officer, as well as a USAID acquisition and assistance specialist based in the Dominican Republic. The experts will build upon the overview of contract types and acquisition planning for natural disasters covered during the June workshop, and highlight specific mechanisms to allow the government to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a natural disaster, while also maintaining transparency and paying fair prices. This workshop is part of CLDP’s two-year project to improve the efficiency of government procurement practices in the Dominican Republic.
