Workshop on Collective Copyright Management

March 7, 2018 - March 9, 2018

CLDP, in coordination with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) and the private sector, as well as the US Embassy in Ukraine, will conduct a three-day Workshop on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights in Ukraine. The workshop participants will include government officials, representatives of IP right holders, lawyers and other stakeholders.

This workshop is a follow-up to the Workshop on Collective Copyright Management in Ukraine, held in Kyiv in February 2015, which facilitated an unprecedented gathering of the most relevant international copyright collective management organizations, which shared their expertise and experience with Ukraine's government officials. These organizations included the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO), the Societies' Council for the Collective Management of Performers' Rights (SCAPR), International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and British Equity Collecting Society (BECS).

Since then several draft laws on collective copyright management were prepared both by the government of Ukraine and the members of the Ukrainian parliament. In drafting some of these draft laws the results of Workshop I were used as a significant contribution. On December 20, 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a new draft law on collective copyright management, prepared by MEDT.

In order to help Ukraine reform its collective copyright management system in line with international recommendations and best practices, CLDP in March 2018 will reprise the Workshop on Collective Copyright Management in Ukraine.  By bringing back together the most relevant international CMOs CLDP will assist the GOU in improving the efficiency and fairness of the collective copyright management system and bringing it further in line with international best practices.
