CLDP TO HOLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY TRAININGS FOR JUDGES AND JOURNALISTS

July 20, 2018 - July 22, 2018

On July 20-22, 2018, CLDP, in coordination with the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA), the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) and the High School of Justice, will facilitate two workshops on intellectual property (IP) in Kabuleti, Georgia.  On July 20, CLDP will hold a workshop for national and local journalists that will focus on covering IPR enforcement and using media to build public awareness on IP issues.  This program will build the capacity of journalists to understand and cover IP issues, which in turn will raise the awareness of the general public on IP rights. On July 21-22, CLDP will lead a workshop for judges on the adjudication of civil intellectual property infringement.

Training for judges that handle IP cases has become increasingly important as much of the judiciary remains unfamiliar with international best practices in this area of law despite an increase in the number of IP infringement cases being heard in the courts.  Both programs are part of a multi-year series of trainings designed to address ongoing IP enforcement challenges in Georgia.
