Sri Lanka: Judicial Exchange on Alternative Dispute Resolution

November 17, 2018 - November 18, 2018

On November 17-18, CLDP, in partnership with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for the Development of Commercial Law and Practice, will hold a two-day judicial exchange program for 30 Sri Lankan Judges on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).  The event will cover topics on the advantages of arbitration and mediation for the Sri Lankan courts and business community; the role of judges in the ADR sector, with a specific emphasis on the New York Convention; and the rules, practices, and procedures of ADR. The main objectives of this program are to engage with Sri Lankan judges on the importance of ADR for Sri Lanka and the role the judiciary plays in an effective arbitration and mediation system. Discussions with international judges on the importance and advantages of ADR for the courts and the business community will illustrate the need for a successful ADR Center in Sri Lanka as well as create a dialogue on the action needed to strengthen the ADR regime in Sri Lanka.
