Afghanistan: ITU Financial Inclusion Event

January 21, 2019 - January 24, 2019

In late January, 2019, CLDP will support participation by Afghan government officials to the second Financial Inclusion Global Initiative (FIGI) Symposium.  The Symposium, to be held in Cairo, Egypt, is being organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) jointly with the World Bank Group and the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures, with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and hosted by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt.  CLDP will organize additional programming for the Afghans on the margins of the symposium. “Financial inclusion” encompasses matters such as access to and use of banks or non-banking transaction systems, such as mobile payments through cellphone carriers or third party platforms.   As such, it is a matter of interest to national regulators and other government offices.  This program is part of CLDP’s efforts to encourage the growth of Afghanistan’s economy through changes in commercial laws and policies.
