Colombia: CLDP Organizes Hydraulic Fracturing Site Visit to Pennsylvania

June 12, 2019

On June 12, 2019, at the request of the Colombian Embassy in the U.S., CLDP will organize a shale or “fracking” visit for the two most senior Colombian officials responsible for permitting unconventional operations: the Director of the National Environmental Licensing Authority and the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development.

The year 2019 will be a watershed year for oil and gas development in Colombia. The Government of Colombia will soon receive the Committee of Experts’ Report, which, as presented in February 2019 in Bogota, will recommend to allow unconventional oil and gas development under strict conditions, and first as pilot projects. In addition, a number of companies with blocks for pilot projects are waiting for final approval for their environmental licenses / permit.  As such, the Colombian Embassy in the U.S. has sought CLDP assistance to arrange a shale or “fracking” visit for itself, the Director of the National Environmental Licensing Authority, and the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, in order to gain a deepr understanding of the strict conditions for unconventional oil and gas development recommended by the Committe of Experts in its February 2019 report.
