On March 26-April 2, CLDP will be sponsoring law students from Kardan University, American University Afghanistan, and Herat University to participate in the 14th Annual Willem C. Vis East Moot (Vis East Moot) Competition in Hong Kong. The Vis East Moot Competition was preceded by the submission of 2 memoranda of law, 2 Afghan national competitions, and 1 Middle East regional Pre-Moot Competition. The program focuses on developing analytical, oral and written advocacy skills, and international arbitration skills for future Afghan lawyers.
March 27, 2017 - April 7, 2017
On March 27-April 7 2017, CLDP will hold a workshop in cooperation with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on “Effective of Capital Markets.” The workshop will feature presentations from U.S. SEC experts on enforcement best practices, investigation techniques, oversight of exchanges and self-regulatory organizations, risk based supervision, and promoting private sector compliance.

CLDP and the Division for Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve will organize a Course on Developing Entrepreneurial and Innovation Ideas in Faro, Portugal from April 3-8, 2017.

As part of the U.S. government’s objective to promote economic expansion and stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan) region, CLDP has been supporting the implementation of regional working groups on Customs, Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures, and Standards. CLDP is organizing the Sixth Meeting of the Central Asia-Afghanistan Regional Expert Level Working Group on Customs Issues to take place in Odessa, Ukraine on April 4-7, 2017.

As part of CLDP's ongoing support for Power Africa, CLDP will conduct a workshop on private investment in power generation projects in Nairobi, Kenya on April 5th and 6th. The workshop will be implemented in partnership with Power Africa's project finance expert and the Africa Development Bank and will include participation from the Kenyon government, generators, utilities and the power sector regulator.

On April 6-13,2017, CLDP sponsored three Middle East law schools: Iraqyia College of Law of Iraq, Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis, and University of Jordan to participate in the 24th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) in Vienna, Austria. The Vis Moot is an educational program, initiated by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), aimed at building international synergies in the resolution of commercial disputes.
April 17, 2017 - May 19, 2017
From April 17 – May 19, 2017, CLDP will sponsor one fellowship recipient from the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) staff to spend a month working as an integral member of the Bureau of Competition team at the Federal Trade Commission. The professional capacity gained by the CCP official through this training will contribute to the transparency and predictability of domestic and international business transactions.

CLDP in collaboration with the Federal Judicial Center (FJC) and the U.S. Embassy Kyiv will host a Workshop on Transparent & Efficient Commercial Court Administration. The Workshop will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine on April 20-22, 2017 and will aim at investigating and recommending for adoption a framework and procedures that meet international best practices for the efficient and transparent management of cases – including witnesses and appeals.

CLDP, in close cooperation with the Continuing Legal Education Institute of Pakistan (CLEIP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), will conduct a National Labor Law Symposium in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 24-25 April, 2017.

CLDP seeks to organize, in Tunis, the second phase of a multiphase regional program on best practices in administering competent and efficient commercial courts on April 17-20, 2017. The goals of the workshop are to help build the capacities of judges to become specialized in adjudicating complex commercial disputes and to help court administrators incorporate modern technology in court management systems. The Tunisia workshop will focus primarily on electronic evidence and the application of international treaties to cross-border commercial disputes.

On April 26, in close coordination with the United States Patent &Trademark Office (USPTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO) of Sri Lanka, CLDP will help NIPO celebrate World IP Day which has a theme of “Innovation-Improving Lives” this year. This event will help raise intellectual property awareness in Sri Lanka and highlight USG and other donor initiatives to strengthen Sri Lanka’s IP regime.

On April 25-27, CLDP will organize a workshop in London, UK on increasing Pakistan's domestic gas supply through stranded and marginal fields. The workshop brings together senior officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources (MPNR) and the Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd.

CLDP will sponsor a three-member Moroccan delegation to attend the Tunis Handicraft Expo from April 28-30, 2017 in Tunis, Tunisia. The delegation will both observe the Tunisian expo and hold consultation with their Tunisian counterparts to exchange best practices and explore future coordination. The exchange is part of CLDP's technical assistance to develop Morocco's handicraft sector and promote the export of Moroccan artisanal goods, and is funded by the Middle East Partnership Initiative of the U.S. Department of State.

CLDP has a mandate to provide technical assistance to foster US-Iraq commercial ties, in that vein, CLDP in collaboration with the City of Houston and the US Department of State, will conduct a 6-day program, on April 30 - May 5, 2017, in Houston, Texas, for 10 government officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil who will attend the “Offshore Technology Conference”, in Houston, May 1-4, 2017.
