September 4, 2018

On September 4, in coordination with the Dominican General Directorate for Public Contracting and the National School of the Judiciary, CLDP will lead a workshop on contract administration and disputes arising from the implementation of government contracts for approximately 40 judges and support staff of the Superior Administrative Court and the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic.

September 6, 2018 - September 7, 2018

On September 6-7, in coordination with the Dominican General Directorate for Public Contracting (DGCP), CLDP will lead a government procurement workshop on contract administration for more than 60 contracting officials from various government agencies. To deliver the workshop, CLDP will call upon the expertise of a Department of Commerce contracts attorney and a VA procurement analyst.

September 10, 2018 - September 12, 2018

On September 10-12, 2018, CLDP will partner with the Competition Agency of Georgia to conduct a Workshop on Preventing Bid-Rigging in Public Procurement.  The workshop will bring together public procurement officials from the State Procurement Agency of Georgia, and other agencies at the national and regional levels, to discuss methods of identifying, investigating and preventing instances of bid rigging in public procurement. 

September 10, 2018 - September 11, 2018

On September 10-11, 2018, CLDP, in collaboration with Judicial-Legal Council of Azerbaijan Republic and the Patent and Trademark Office of Azerbaijan Republic, will organize a Workshop on Intellectual Property Adjudication for 20 judges in Baku, Azerbaijan.

September 16, 2018 - September 21, 2018

On September 16-21, in cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO) Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC), CLDP will hold a Joint Workshop for officials from the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan on Good Regulatory Practice and the WTO Agreements on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS).  The workshop will feature an exchange among Afghanistan and Pakistani officials and U.S. experts from across the interagency, including the Office of the U.S.

September 17, 2018 - September 21, 2018

On September 17-21 in Tbilisi, Georgia, CLDP will conduct a customs project management training workshop and facilitate a bilateral exchange between the Afghanistan Customs Department (ACD) and the Georgia Revenue Service.  CLDP will sponsor the travel the of 9 Afghan Customs officials to participate in the collaborative workshop, and the Georgia Revenue Service will host a series of executive and technical-level customs briefings at its headquarters office in Tbilisi.  Additionally, technical experts from the World Customs Organization (WCO) will lead a multi-day training mo

September 18, 2018 - September 21, 2018

CLDP proposes that on September 18-21, 2018, officials of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) and the Government of Pakistan (GoP) join CLDP and the IRU in Istanbul, Turkey for training on implementation of the TIR Convention.  The program will include discussion of international best practices in TIR implementation, updates on bilateral trade and TIR development, demonstrations of procedures and the use of electronic tools, and planning for further coordination with IRU departments and the respective GoIRA and GoP Customs Officials.

On September 20-21, CLDP will collaborate with the Georgian Bar Association (GBA) to lead a workshop that trains attorneys on handling matters that involve international sales contracts.  This capacity building program will help create a critical mass of Georgian legal professionals that understand the provisions of the United Nations Convention on Contracts of the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and can effectively advise and represent clients in this area of commercial law.  On September 22-23, CLDP will coordinate with the High School of Justice of Georgia (HSOJ) to fac

September 24, 2018 - September 25, 2018

On September 24-25, in Manama, CLDP led a workshop and focus group on government tendering in cooperation with the Bahrain Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (MOICT), Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bahrain, Bahrain Businesswomen Society and several government contracting agencies. The workshop focused on Bahrain’s recent reforms to promote set-aside programs for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Such programs aim to set aside a set percentage of public contracts to be awarded exclusively to SMEs.

In October 2017 CLDP initiated a Case Study arising out of mutual bilateral concerns surrounding TBT standards, conformity assessment and market access.  Focused meetings with multiple Ukrainian government agencies and the private sector were held in November, December, January, February, March and April.  In June this same format welcomed participation from the USTR.  CLDP captured the discussion in the form of a draft Case Study Report, based primarily on electric cable, with some discussion also of  refrigerators and freezing equipment. 

September 24, 2018 - September 28, 2018

From September 24-28, CLDP conducted an evaluation of the Tunisian suspension and debarment regime in collaboration with HAICOP, Tunisia’s government procurement body. For the past four years, CLDP has been working with HAICOP to promote transparent and efficient government procurement processes. The evaluation was an opportunity to assess the implementation of the suspension and debarment regime, two years after passage of the exclusion decree.

On September 25-27, CLDP, in close cooperation with USPTO and the Continuing Legal Education Institute of Pakistan (CLEIP), will conduct an intellectual property (IP) workshop in Karachi, Pakistan, for IP Tribunal Presiding Officers and select District and Session Court (D&S) judges identified as likely to be assigned to IP Tribunals in the near future (a total of 15 participants).

On September 26, in Manama, CLDP met with the head legal advisors and legal researchers of the Bahrain Parliament to release a draft guide on commercial legislative research. The guide is intended to act as a resource tool for the legal advisors, researchers, and parliament training center staff to promote better institutional understanding and best practices on researching and writing legal memos for Bahrain’s parliament. For the past two years, CLDP has provided technical assistance to the Parliament of Bahrain on a variety of economic and trade-related topics.

September 26, 2018 - September 27, 2018

From September 26-27, in Manama, CLDP, in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council of Bahrain, conducted a judicial training on the development of a bankruptcy system in Bahrain for 16 local judges. Bahrain recently adopted a new bankruptcy law in accordance with international best practices, which allows for restructuring proceedings. CLDP experts included the Hon. Michael Williamson, chief judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Middle District of Florida, who focused on reorganization case studies, while also sharing practical experience on bankruptcy case management in the U.S.
