June 15, 2019 - June 20, 2019

CLDP will sponsor an e-Governance Assessment and Strategy workshop for Afghanistan to take place in Tallinn, Estonia on June 15-21, 2019. The program will consist of a 7-day workshop for 28 attendees (20 Afghan participants, 3 international experts, 3 local experts, and 2 CLDP staff).

June 17, 2019 - June 20, 2019

On June 17-20, 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia, CLDP partnered with the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Georgia Revenue Service (GRS) to deliver a customs and trade facilitation workshop with the Afghanistan Customs Department.  The workshop was part of CLDP’s support of Afghanistan Customs’ modernization initiatives, which have helped increase the transparency and predictability of Customs operations in Afghanistan—a key component of fostering a better business environment in Afghanistan for trade and investment.

June 17, 2019 - June 18, 2019

On June 17-18, 2019, CLDP will work in cooperation with the American Automotive Policy Council and the U.S. National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA) to hold a workshop for officials from the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) on automotive safety. 

The workshop will include a discussion of U.S. automotive safety standards, vehicle testing, and the broad approach U.S. regulators take for ensuring safety in U.S.

June 17, 2019 - June 18, 2019

On June 17, 2019, CLDP will organize a workshop on developing an effective bankruptcy ecosystem in Morocco. Last year, Morocco passed a new bankruptcy statute that incorporates many of the latest international best practices and present these countries as effective partners in the global economy. This law allows for civil protection from creditors and for restructuring of companies in financial peril.

June 17, 2019 - June 20, 2019

On June 17-20, CLDP held a workshop and consultation for Bahraini officials that are members of an action team tasked with drafting and implementing a series of new laws and programs to promote small business and government tendering SME programs in Bahrain. The workshop was held in coordination with the SME promotion agencies in Singapore. As Bahrain creates its programs it has looked to international best practices in the region, specifically, a request to CLDP to use Singapore as a regional model for new SME laws and procurement reform for small business. June 24, 2019 - June 28, 2019

On June 24-28, 2019, in Istanbul and Izmir, Turkey, CLDP, in coordination with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), conducted Part II of a Training Manual Workshop. Participants included 19 legal and technical staff members, primarily of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan (MoMP) and focused on the new regulatory framework for implementing Afghanistan’s 2018 Minerals Law. This workshop is part of a two-year mining training course and is a continuation of Part I of the Training Manual Workshop held in Kabul in December 2018.

June 25, 2019 - June 27, 2019

From June 25-27, CLDP will organize a regional conference on arbitration and mediation in collaboration with the Tunisian judiciary. CLDP will bring together about 150 judges, arbitrators, mediators, and lawyers from the MENA region. The conference will focus on the use of mediation to resolve commercial disputes and address topics such as the role of courts in encouraging mediation, legal framework supporting mediation, enforcement of mediated settlements, mediation rules and practices, and standards for the conduct of mediators.

June 25, 2019

On June 25, in Manama, CLDP met with representatives from the Consumer Protection Directorate of the Bahrain Ministry of Commerce Industry and Tourism to discuss ways of raising the capacity of the staff to implement the recently promulgate Competition Law in Bahrain. The Bahrain Competition Law was modeled after US law, and therefore, the Ministry is eager to learn from US institutions such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) how to regulate and implement the new Bahrain Competition Law.  In cooperation with the FTC, CLDP plans to conduct competition law training workshops

June 26, 2019 - June 27, 2019

On June 26-27, in Manama, CLDP in cooperation with the Bahrain Institute for Banking and Finance (BIBF) and the Bahrain Ministry of Justice, conducted insolvency law training for local bankers and business people.  CLDP provided one-day training sessions specifically designed for each group regarding their respective role in potential bankruptcy proceedings.  Presenters included local lawyers as well as international insolvency law experts who provided an overview of the new Bahrain Insolvency Law and insights on how the law can be used to restructure distressed companie

June 30, 2019 - July 1, 2019

On June 30 and July 1, in Manama, CLDP, in cooperation with the Bahrain Economic Development Board and the Central Bank of Bahrain, will conduct a workshop for lawyers and businesspeople regarding the recently drafted Secured Lending Law.  CLDP assisted with the drafting of the new law, which was recently ushered through the legislative drafting process in response to recommendations from the World Bank that such law would improve access to credit in Bahrain.  Local and international experts will focus on the value and mechanics of a law that will allow for lending
