The proliferation of counterfeit, adulterated, and illegal agricultural inputs such as improved seeds, fertilizers, vaccines, farm equipment and crop protection products is increasing in Africa as governments encourage farmers to use new technologies to increase farming output. Although Mali has already implemented a basic legal framework for oversight of the quality of agricultural products, much remains to be done in terms of sensitization and technical capacity building of the relevant stakeholders.

On August 4-5, 2-10, as part of its outreach to the Indo-Pacific, CLDP will conduct a training in the Maldives on modernizing the Procurement Act. CLDP’s training will introduce the Maldivian participants to international best practices used by UNCITRAL as well as case studies from the U.S. and South Africa.

CLDP, in cooperation with the USPTO, will hold a four-day U.S. Consultations on Trademarks Intellectual Property Office Administration to take place in Washington DC on August 5-8, 2019.

On August 5-8, 2019, CLDP supported the participation of a delegate from the State Service of Intellectual Property and Innovation, Krygyz Republic, and the Kazakh Patent Agency in a Trademarks IP Office Administration training, hosted by the USPTO in Alexandria, Virginia. The 4-day program addressed the operation and administration of a trademark office, providing information and ideas to improve trademark office processes by developing strategic plans, establishing workflow, reducing pendency, improving quality, and overall creating efficiencies and a better customer experience.

August 6, 2019 - August 12, 2019

CLDP will sponsor a delegation from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka to attend the Singapore Mediation Convention on August 6 and 7. After the Convention, the delegation will attend a mediation training until August 12. The training will focus on mediation rules, case management, and general mediation skills.

August 12, 2019 - August 16, 2019

On August 12-16, 2019, in coordination with the U.S. Geological Survey, CLDP will hold Advanced Topics session of the Mining Course in Marrakesh, Morocco.  The Mining Course is a two-year training program designed for a select group of members of legal and technical directorates of the Afghanistan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP). It consists of 3 segments of varying length, scope and level of detail.

From August 20-22, in New Delhi, CLDP, in partnership with USPTO, conducted a Trademark Examiners Workshop for the Afghanistan Central Business Registry & Intellectual Property Office (ACBR-IP).  The three-day workshop focused on key aspects of TM examination, including global best practices and a comparison of current policies and procedures of ACBR-IP and USPTO.

August 21, 2019 - August 22, 2019

As a follow-up on the Identification and Interdiction of Counterfeit Products Workshop hosted in Dushanbe in October 2016, and the Workshop on Border Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights hosted in Dushanbe in May 2018, CLDP, in coordination with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan will host the third Workshop on Border Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights. The training will take place in August 2019 and consist of a three-day program that will involve experts from the government and private sector in the U.S.
