CLDP conducted a program for Ukrainian intellectual property officials. The program, entitled "U.S. Consultations on Intellectual Property Appellate Proceedings: Ukraine State Department of Intellectual Property (SDIP)" sought to acquaint Ukrainian intellectual property officials with the substantive and administrative principles and processes of intellectual property appellate proceedings."

Customs officials from Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbian and Montenegro, and UNMIK/Kosov (as observers) attended the fifth in a series of CLDP customs workshops desigend to achieve enhanced communication, cooperation, and coordination amongst the regions customs agencies.

Law Library Enhancement for Curriculum Development Program in the Persian Gulf

CLDP continues to provide assistance to the Middle East by assisting with the development of curricula that will introduce international norms and practices of commercial law to the law schools in the region. During this visit to four Gulf countries, CLDP provided guidance on teaching international commercial law courses and resources to support the further development of comprehensive international commercial law curricula.

Russian and Ukraine - Border Enforcement Officials Workshop

As part of CLDP's ongoing support of Russia and Ukraine's efforts to make the protection of intellectual property rights under their Commercial Codes more compliant with the TRIPS Agreement, CLDP conducted a five-day workshop for Russian and Ukrainian border enforcement officials nominated by the Russian and Ukrainian State Customs Services.

Telecommunications Dispute Resolution Consultation - Phase II

CLDP experts assisted Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority(NTRA) in its efforts to create transparent and efficient dispute resolution procedures to handle disputes that will dramatically increase in the recently liberalized Egyptian telecom market.

Patent Examiner Training (GIPA)

In response to a large backlog of patent applications, and increased volume in patent applications each year as a result of Pakistan's new recognition of pharmaceutical product patents, Pakistan's Patent Office has hired 12 new examiners. These examiners, though junior, are computer capable and have educational backgrounds in areas including pharmaceuticals, general chemistry, and electrical engineering. CLDP facilitated the involvement of 4 of these new patent examiners in the USPTO's Global Intellectual Property Academy in October of 2005, in order to familiarize these new examiners with international IP administration standards and best practices.

CLDP sponsored the attendance of 17 Trade Working Group members from several countries in the region to the meeting in Antalya, Turkey.
