Commercial Diplomacy & Investment Promotion Workshop for Afghan Government Officials

In the first event of of a multi-phase program, CLDP attorneys, along with experts in commercial diplomacy and international trade law, conducted a workshop in Kabul for approximately 25 Afghan commercial attaches and investment promotion officials from a variety of Afghan ministries.

CLDP, in close coordination with the State Department’s Bureau of Energy, conducted shale gas consultations in the US for a delegation of key officials from the Government of India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) November 7-11, 2011.

Afghanistan: Contract Rights and Obligations Lecture

In September 2011,  the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) conducted a “Contracts Rights and Obligations” lecture for members of the Afghan legal community, including the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), faculty and students from Kabul University. During that time, two leading International Contracts lawyers for the United States also led a CLDP workshop with the Afghan businesses on what to expect in planned matchmaking sessions with the participating U.S. companies and on the basics of international business partnerships.

U.S.- Afghanistan Trade Mission: Preparatory Workshop for Afghan Businesses

In advance of an Afghan trade mission to the U.S. in November, CLDP provided a “primer” for Afghan businesses selected for the trade mission on what to expect and how to prepare for the trade mission.  On September 26 in Kabul, CLDP attorneys and its experts conducted a one-day workshop with the Afghan businesses on what to expect in planned matchmaking sessions with the participating U.S. companies and on the basics of international business partnerships.

Trade Policy & Research US Consultations

Building on the success of a May, 2010 trade capacity building program for the Pakistan Institute for Trade and Development (PITAD), CLDP brought a delegation of nine individuals representing various government ministries as well as members of PITAD’s management team to Washington D.C. for more consultations and workshops to build Pakistan’s capacity in trade policy and research.

Pakistan Judicial Capacity Building program on IP Law and International Commercial Arbitration

From April 25-April 30, 2011, CLDP conducted a Judicial Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and International Commercial Arbitration Program at Pakistan’s Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad, Pakistan for a group of 30 Civil Judges and District and Sessions Judges.

Pakistan Supreme Court Justice and U.S. Supreme Court Justices Meet Through CLDP Judicial Capacity Building Program

In close collaboration with the Pakistan Supreme Court through its Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), CLDP organized a three-week (October 25-November 12) judicial capacity building program focusing on the topics of judicial enforcement of intellectual property rights and foreign arbitral awards.
