Kuwait – Insolvency Judicial Capacity Building   

CLDP in close cooperation with the Kuwait Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) and the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies (IJLS) will conduct a workshop for Kuwaiti judges regarding basic elements of insolvency adjudication including opening an insolvency case, protecting debtors and creditors, managing court appointed experts such as accountants and trustees and other issues germane to insolvency cases.

Middle East: CLDP Supports Second Annual Arabic Moot Competition in Saudi Arabia

CLDP, in partnership with the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), virtually hosted the Second SCCA Arabic Moot Competition targeting students in universities of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) studying to earn a bachelor’s degree in Sharia and Law. This year, the virtual Moot brought together 54 participating teams representing 36 universities from 26 cities across the GCC. The Arabic Moot Competition prepares students with legal skills needed to argue before international arbitration tribunals and helps develop their written and oral argument skills through direct feedback from practicing lawyers. The event replicates CLDP program goals of the annual Vis Pre-Moot program, which aims to improve the practice of international commercial arbitration and develop the capacity alternative dispute resolution mechanisms abroad.

Afghanistan – Trademark Examiners Review of Workshop Series

CLDP, in close cooperation with USPTO, conducted a 2-hour webinar for the Afghanistan TM Directorate (TMD) to review the first eight workshops of the multi-series program  on key aspects of TM examination and registration, including distinctiveness, likelihood of confusion, classification, amendments, and renewals.

Starting this quarter, CLDP has begun to engage with 20 Commercial Attachés from Afghanistan, who are posted throughout the world, through introductory meetings in preparation of launching a pre-recorded webinar series.
