December 3, 2019 - December 4, 2019

On December 3-4, in Termez, Uzbekistan, CLDP sponsored a regional trade and transportation forum titled “Challenges of Transit vs. Opportunities for Trade”, in coordination with USAID’s Competitiveness, Trade and Jobs initiative. The event brought together more than 140 participants from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, India, and Pakistan. The combined group of public officials and private sector representatives in the logistics, transport, and freight forwarding sectors discussed regional barriers to cross-border trade and explored potential ways to increase and improve trade via road, railway, and river transport. Participants also visited the newly-constructed cargo terminal and the operating Termez river port. Of particular focus during the forum was the role Afghanistan can play in connecting the South and Central Asian regions for increased trade. The discussions culminated in the signing of connectivity Memoranda of Understanding between all represented countries.
