Afghanistan: SPS Private-Sector Stakeholder Meeting

August 13, 2020

CLDP, in cooperation with USDA and USAID, will host a teleconference specifically for representatives from the Afghan Private-Sector, focused on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures in Afghanistan. This teleconference will serve to deepen Afghan agricultural stakeholders understanding of the interagency effort to help Afghanistan meet its World Trade Organization SPS Agreement obligations,  improve its SPS and food safety procedures, and improve Afghan market access for agricultural exports.  It will also serve as a listening session to determine the major issues affecting SPS and food safety in Afghanistan from the private sector perspective.  Participants will also include private stakeholders related to Afghan agribusiness.  This teleconference will increase CLDP’s, USDA’s, and USAID’s understanding of the issues affecting Afghanistan’s international agricultural trade, and, specifically, challenges related to SPS and food safety, and bring to light the barriers to the Afghan private sector’s meeting international SPS standards.
