In November, CLDP will sponsor Afghan private sector companies and public representatives in a regional conference on transportation and logistics matters and conduct a site visit to the free economic zone in Termez, Uzbekistan, in order to continue to facilitate and improve open trade between Afghanistan and its regional partners.

On December 3-4, CLDP conducted a training on FIDIC (the International Federation of Consulting Engineers) contracts for an audience comprised of representatives from the Ministries of Finance, National Planning and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Environment and the Attorney General’s Office. FIDIC contracts are internationally recognized standardized contracts for construction projects. They provide a baseline of best practices for risk allocation, dispute resolution and other pertinent contract clauses.

On December 3-6, at the behest of the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, CLDP conducted assessments with stakeholders on issues arising in legal and regulatory reform efforts in the telecom, renewable energy and judicial sectors.

December 3, 2019 - December 4, 2019

On December 3 and 4, 2019, in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) Secretariat, and the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, CLDP will organize a workshop for customs officials from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Moldova on risk analysis and risk profiles and post-clearance audits (PCA).

On December 6-7, 2019, CLDP is partnering with four universities in Burma to train law students for the Willem C. Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot competition,the preeminent commercial arbitration practice exercise in the world which is held annually in Hong Kong and Vienna.

On December 6-14, 2019, CLDP and USGS will facilitate consultations and meetings for a 7-member Afghan delegation from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) with Colombian counterparts in in Bogotá, Colombia.  The Afghan delegation will meet with Colombian government officials to learn about Colombia’s efforts to formalize its artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector, effective governance of emerald production and export, implementation of e-cadaster system, and successful compliance with Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (E

On November 2-3, 2019, CLDP, in cooperation with the Georgian Association of Arbitrators (GAA), will convene a roundtable to promote international commercial arbitration in Tbilisi, Georgia.  The roundtable will be a platform for local arbitration specialists, members of the Georgian judiciary, and other stakeholders from the private and public sector to discuss the challenges in establishing arbitration as a viable means of resolving commercial disputes in Georgia.  CLDP will then facilitate a workshop for local arbitration specialists on international best practices in commercia

CLDP will conduct training and consultations regarding privatization, public-private partnerships (PPPs), and foreign investment for the officials from the Government of Saudi Arabia.  International and local US lawyers will provide insight into best legal practices in privatization, PPP, and trade law in order to attract foreign partners, including US companies to develop business opportunities in Saudi Arabia. 

December 11, 2019 - December 13, 2019

On December 11-13, in Casablanca, CLDP, in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, will hold a workshop on technology transfer and intellectual property for 40 government officials, academics, and researchers. The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of technology transfer stakeholders to manage intellectual property rights.

December 12, 2019

On December 12, in Manama, Bahrain, CLDP held a workshop focused on technology transfer for representatives from government, academia, and the startup community. The workshop included an intellectual property exercise as well as a negotiation exercise of a technology license based on a case study, both of which were created by CLDP. In order to diversify its economy and to support an innovation ecosystem, the Kingdom of Bahrain has recently created a virtual Innovation and Technology Center.

CLDP will conduct a workshop on customs valuation in Safaga, Egypt December 12-14, 2019. This complements a similar workshop that took place in the ports of Alexandria and Said in August 2019.

On December 16-17, CLDP will hold a two-day workshop on power project procurement. The workshop seeks to improve the planning of bids from prep to closing through a discussion on international best practice relating to the request for proposals (RfPs), standardization of documents, designing a competitive bid round, evaluations and identifying gaps in the current legal framework.

On December 19-20, CLDP, in collaboration with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Directorate, held a two-day workshop on PPP fundamentals. The workshop highlighted PPP process, structure economics, project financing, and revenue flow.
