August 1, 2020 - April 30, 2021

Throughout the quarter, CLDP engaged with numerous experts to prepare and record eight separate sessions on trade topics, specifically designed for Afghanistan’s approximately 25 Commercial Attachés posted throughout the world. In May 2018, CLDP spent one week training the same group of Attachés in a comprehensive course designed for them prior to their departure.

February 1, 2021 - February 12, 2021

From February 1-12, CLDP, in cooperation with the Center for International Legal Education of the University of Pittsburgh, is hosting a program for 27 university teams from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia to develop oral arguments in preparation of their scheduled hearings in the 11th Annual Middle East Vis Pre-Moot this February 21-27. The sessions are part of a 9-month-long CLDP program that prepares law school teams around the world to compete in the 28th Annual Willem C.

February 3, 2021

On February 3, CLDP, in partnership with the Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), will conduct a one-day webinar which is the second installment in a series entitled Adjudication of Intellectual Property (IP) Infringement Cases and will focus on civil IP adjudication.  Expert advisors include a U.S. federal judge and the head of the legal department at Lanaco, a leading ICT company in the BiH. February 4, 2021

CLDP will run an introductory workshop on the basic project agreements that make up a PPP in partnership with the PPP Authority. The structure of a PPP is complex, and there are many project contracts with different parties and throughout the different phases of the project. Understanding the project agreements of a PPP can help in understanding the intricacies of a PPP project, hiring appropriate experts, negotiating terms of a project contract, and also in accurately measuring and understanding the costs of a PPP transaction. 


February 7, 2021 - February 23, 2021

On February 15, CLDP, will release a pre-recorded webinar on project agreements for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). PPPs provide an innovative approach to developing major infrastructure projects across the globe, but before a PPP can be implemented, there are project agreements that need to be executed. The webinar will provide participants with an overview of the typical project agreements that make up a PPP, including the purpose of each agreement, the necessary components, and the parties that will be involved in negotiating.

February 8, 2021 - February 22, 2021

Beginning February 8th 2021, CLDP, in coordination with experts from the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC), will provide presentations on the WTO notifications system for the Afghan Mission in Geneva and officials within the Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and Ministry of Public Health. After discussing WTO Notifications at large, CLDP and the ITTC will provide specific trainings tailored to focus on expected and upcoming notifications due by Afghanistan to the WTO in 2021.

February 8, 2021 - February 13, 2021

From February 8-13, CLDP, in coordination with Association Arbitri and the University of Zenica, will conduct a four-day training on oral advocacy to prepare law students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Belarus for the 28th Willem C. Vis Moot competition (Vis Moot) taking place virtually next month.

February 9, 2021 - February 11, 2021

On February 9-11, CLDP will host a conference bringing together more than 100 Moldovan procurement officials from the national, regional, and local level to discuss best practices in government procurement and to find common solutions for common issues faced by contracting authorities throughout the country. The webinar will consist of presentations from U.S. experts from the U.S. Department of Commerce and from the State of New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs as well as from Moldova’s Public Procurement Agency (PPA).

February 16, 2021 - February 18, 2021

CLDP, in coordination with Arbitration Initiative Georgia, will lead a simulated oral advocacy competition (Vis Pre-Moot) to help students from the Caucasus prepare for the 28th Willem C.

CLDP has partnered with the US General Services Administration (GSA) and the US Small Business Association (SBA) in order to provide guidance to the Bahrain Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism (MOICT) regarding developing a subcontracting database that would facilitate large companies and SMEs in contracting together for Bahrain government tenders.

CLDP will conduct an introductory workshop on financial modeling specific to iteration for employees of the PPP Authority. A common issue that arises in project financial modeling is how the valuation process is circular or simultaneous. The cost of capital to calculate the values of invested capital and equity must be known, but the values to calculate the cost of capital must also be known. This webinar will discuss the financial modeling tools that use iteration to solve this problem, allowing for project valuations to be accurately modeled.

February 21, 2021 - February 27, 2021

On February 21-27, CLDP, in cooperation with the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR) and the University of Pittsburgh Center for International Legal Education, virtually hosted the 11th annual Middle East Vis Pre-Moot. The Pre-Moot is an extensive competition preparing students, lawyers, and law faculty for their participation in the 28th annual Willem C.

February 23, 2021

CLDP, in close cooperation with USPTO, will conduct a two 2-hour webinar for the Afghanistan TM Directorate on managing revisions to pending TM applications and ownership transfers of registered TMs.

February 24, 2021 - February 25, 2021

On February 24-25, CLDP will conduct a workshop on FIDIC contracts for a delegation of Sri Lankan officials from the Attorney General’s office. FIDIC contracts are international standard contracts used in the fields of construction and installation, and can be utilized as part of Public Private Partnerships (PPP). CLDP’s programming builds capacity for key ministries and other institutions on PPPs, and trains local officials on advanced topics so that they can better advise other agencies on PPPs.
