August 1, 2020 - April 30, 2021

Throughout the quarter, CLDP engaged with numerous experts to prepare and record eight separate sessions on trade topics, specifically designed for Afghanistan’s approximately 25 Commercial Attachés posted throughout the world. In May 2018, CLDP spent one week training the same group of Attachés in a comprehensive course designed for them prior to their departure.

March 15, 2021 - May 24, 2021

CLDP in close collaboration with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will train Bahrain Innovation and Technology Center (BITC) staff regarding filing patents in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council).  This program is part of a CLDP/USPTO collaboration to conduct over 40 hours of intellectual property training for the BITC.  The program will include training on how to obtain patents and copyrights in the US as well as other jurisdictions.  

March 22, 2021 - April 16, 2021

On March 22- April 16, CLDP in cooperation with USAID - Power Africa will host a drafting session on transmission finance. In line with Power Africa’s 2030 goal of generating 7,500 MW of electricity and 5,000 km of transmission lines, the Power Africa Understanding series is being expanded to include a dedicated guidebook on transmission financing.

April 1, 2021

In collaboration with Bangladesh's Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Authority, CLDP will hold a workshop on PPP termination for the Bangladeshi line ministries. Public Authorities must be able to identify early indications of potential default in a PPP contract and proactively mitigate risk of termination to maintain project viability and limit liability. The workshop will cover contract close and asset handover, the conditions under which a contract may be terminated early, and early termination compensation payments. 

April 4, 2021 - April 8, 2021

CLDP, in partnership with the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), virtually hosted the Second SCCA Arabic Moot Competition targeting students in universities of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) studying to earn a bachelor’s degree in Sharia and Law. This year, the virtual Moot brought together 54 participating teams representing 36 universities from 26 cities across the GCC.

April 6, 2021

On April 6th, 2021, CLDP, with support from USAID, partnered with the Afghanistan Consulate General in Mumbai to hold a virtual Afghan Saffron Business to Business (B2B) matchmaking event for Indian traders. The Afghan Saffron B2B capitalized on increasing demand for high-quality saffron in India by connecting Afghan producers to approximately 50 traders, importers, manufacturers, and wholesalers in the Indian market. April 8, 2021 - April 23, 2021

CLDP, in partnership with the Dominican General Directorate for Public Procurement (DGCP), will participate in a series of four webinars to raise awareness of key provisions in the country’s draft procurement law that seeks to improve the efficiency, transparency, and inclusion of women-owned and small business in the procurement system.

April 12, 2021

CLDP in close cooperation with the Kuwait Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) and the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies (IJLS) will conduct a workshop for Kuwaiti judges regarding basic elements of insolvency adjudication including opening an insolvency case, protecting debtors and creditors, managing court appointed experts such as accountants and trustees and other issues germane to insolvency cases.  

April 12, 2021 - May 31, 2021

At the request of the Attorney General’s Office of the Maldives, CLDP will develop a pre-recorded webinar series where a number of industry experts will deliver presentations on different areas of finance related to infrastructure and investment. The first module of this engagement will focus on Contract Drafting with topics to be covered including contract drafting 101, infrastructure contracts and key clauses, FIDIC contracts, common contract disputes, and negotiating contracts.

April 19, 2021 - April 23, 2021

CLDP, in collaboration with UNCITRAL and the University of Pittsburgh's Center for International Legal Education (CILE), will support over 20 teams compete in the 29th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Moot in Vienna and in the 18th Vis East Moot in April 2021.

April 19, 2021 - April 22, 2021

CLDP, in cooperation with U.S. and European-based procurement experts, will lead a virtual consultation on best practices for Moldova’s implementation of a new law establishing the rules by which entities operating in the utilities sector may procure goods and services for themselves. During the program, experts will discuss best practices in implementation of a similar European law and provide insight into ways to incorporate U.S. best practices into Moldova’s implementation of its law.

To ensure that those resources are well spent, it is important to have an understanding of the commercial contracts associated with a project. The webinar will delve into the international best practices related to the commercial contracts of a PPP.  The program will include a pre-recorded webinar, and a live Q&A session.
