Regional Workshop on the Practical Approaches to IP Utilization and Protection in Africa

About 170 East, West, and Southern African IP officials, IP practitioners, IP stakeholders, and private sector, from 19 Anglophone and Francophone African countries gathered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania March 19-21, 2013 to discuss and learn about the practical approaches, successes, challenges and future strategies to the protection and utilization of IP as a facilitator of innvation, entrepreneurship, trade and investment. 

Ukraine: Workshop on Adjudication of Intellectual Property Infringement Cases

CLDP, in cooperation with the National School of Judges and the Higher Commercial Court of Ukraine, held a three-day workshop on Adjudication of Intellectual Property Infringement Cases in Yalta, Ukraine, July 20-22. In attendance were 21 judges from commercial courts and appeals courts throughout Ukraine as well as experts from the National School of Judges. The presentations and case studies for the workshop were prepared in direct response to questions and issues which had been previously sent to CLDP by the Ukrainian judges. Topics discussed during the workshop included trade dress and product packaging and design, trademark conflicts, remedies in IPR litigation, copyright infringement including collective copyright management organizations, trade secrets, and internet issues in IPR cases.

Workshop on the Improvement of Interagency Coordination of Intellectual Property Protection in Ukraine

On May 14-16, 2012, CLDP held a workshop in Lviv, Ukraine focusing on coordination of enforcement and adjudication of IP issues. Advisors from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the World Customs Organization, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement joined CLDP to work towards the creation of an IP interagency working group.

Third Customs Valuation Workshop for State Customs Service of Ukraine: Post-Clearance Audit and Additional Valuation and Classification Topics

As part of its continued collaboration with the State Customs Service of Ukraine, CLDP conducted the third of a series of workshops on specific issues and procedures in customs valuation and post audit valuation on April 17-20, 2012 in Kyiv.
 

The Role of the Judiciary in the Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property in East Africa

CLDP led a three-day workshop in Kigali, Rwanda, June 6-8, 2011, focusing on the judiciary’s role in promoting intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and enforcement throughout the East African region.

CLDP Private Sector Integrity Conference

CLDP in conjunction with the Qatari Public Prosecution office, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organization for Economic Development (OECD) organized a Private Sector Integrity and Economic Development in Gulf Countries conference on May 10-11, 2011 in Doha, Qatar.

Tunisia: CLDP Conducts Workshop and Launches Manual on “Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Maghreb”

CLDP organized workshops April 27-28, 2011 in Tunis, Tunisia on “Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Maghreb” and franchising, as well as launched the French-language version of the “Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Maghreb” book published by CLDP.

CLDP Initiative to Fight IP Piracy and Counterfeiting

CLDP, in close cooperation with Ukraine’s Customs Service and Ukraine’s private industry, held a two-day workshop on identification and interdiction of counterfeit and pirated products on February 22-23.

November 19, 2019 - November 20, 2019

On November 19-20, 2019, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, CLDP & ITA conducted a workshop on effective interagency coordination to facilitate comprehensive publication of trade-related and centrally-published information. Participants included technical representatives from the Honduran and Guatemalan Ministries of Economy, Customs, Health, and Agriculture, and Honduran private sector representatives. During the workshop the Honduran participants met with their U.S. counterparts from the Department of Commerce, Customs and Border Protection, Health and Human Services, and the Food and Drug Administration to learn best practices for coordinating across trade ministries and publishing trade-related information in a non-discriminatory, easy-to-access manner. With support from the Honduran-American Chamber of Commerce, the participants shared respective efforts to encourage trade through greater transparency and improve publication practices. This workshop was part of a multiphase effort to promote transparency, cooperation, and coordination within the Honduran government, and to improve interregional trade in Central America.

CLDP in Action

October 23, 2019 - October 24, 2019

On October 23-24 in Tunis, Tunisia, CLDP held a workshop to identify potential changes to Tunisian law that would encourage increased cross-border eCommerce transactions for both exports and imports. Over 40 representatives from several government ministries, the private sector, and the NGO community discussed potential amendments to Tunisia’s eCommerce law, customs procedures, central bank currency and payment rules, and other matters.  The participants offered sets of informal recommendations for further action.

ECommerce in Tunisia has not reached its full potential, although there are black market eCommerce websites. Legal changes could help Tunisian SMEs and individuals reach new markets, while also providing opportunities for US sellers.
