CLDP Holds Roundtable and Judicial Workshop with Georgian Judiciary on Insolvency Framework

-

On November 29, CLDP lead a roundtable for Georgian government officials to discuss the country’s current legal framework on insolvency. The workshop was held in Tbilisi, Georgia with the support of the U.S. Embassy Tbilisi and sought to bring together Georgian government stakeholders from the Ministry of Justice, the High Council of Justice and the Parliament.  The roundtable agenda included sessions on comparative bankruptcy principles, including secured lending, reorganization and the use of specialized courts, but also focused on creating a dialog about solutions to the challenges of the current insolvency system.

On December 1-2, CLDP, in collaboration with the High School of Justice Training Center of Georgia, also hosted a workshop on adjudication of insolvency cases in Tbilisi, Georgia. Fifteen Georgian judges attended the two-day program, which will include interactive case studies, group discussions on the current insolvency framework in Georgia, and presentations on international norms and standards.  This workshop increased the participants’ understanding of insolvency cases, the laws that govern them, and international trends and norms that influence them. Through this ongoing program of judicial capacity building, Georgian judges will gain the skills necessary to more fairly and efficiently adjudicate insolvency cases.

U.S. Chief Bankruptcy Judge Michael Williamson and David Curry, a retired Mayer Brown partner and an expert in corporate restructuring and rehabilitation, lead the roundtable and the workshop.
