On September 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia CLDP conducted a roundtable with the American Business Group of Riyadh (ABGR) legal representatives on the status of commercial law development in Saudi Arabia and the region.  ABGR lawyers represented large law firms such as Jones Day, solo practitioners such as Christopher Johnson, and in-house counsels at large companies such as General Electric.  ABGR lawyers were pleased to hear the current CLDP emphasis on contract enforcement, complex commercial transaction litigation, and government procurement.  Those who have been working in Saudi Arabia for over a decade, noted the significant changes in commercial laws developed in Saudi Arabia, although highlighting a need for proper implementation of these laws.  ABGR members expressed concerns over Saudi bureaucracy and business practices that favor Saudi partners.  Saudi Arabia is a significant importer of US goods and services, which translates into hundreds of thousands of jobs for US citizens.  CLDP efforts to level the playing field in Saudi Arabia for US companies is important to improve US benefits from this trade relationship.
