Round Table Discussion with Local and International Experts

CLDP, in coordination with Qatar University's Center Energy, Environmental and Sustainability Law and Policy (CEESLP), hosted delegates from the Afghanistan Ministry of Mines and the Yemen Ministry of Oil and Minerals for a week of consultations on energy and resources law in Doha, Qatar.  These consultations were conducted by US and Qatari energy law professors as well as practitioners from local Qatari energy companies and international law firms focusing on energy law. The consultations addressed legal topics significant to energy and resource management for Afghan and Yemeni government representatives including model contracts, arbitration, tenders, and community development.
The group also conducted site visits to U.S. and Qatari energy companies, including a Qatari company specializing in renewable energy research and standards.  Improvement in the capacity of energy law will enhance the ability of governments in Afghanistan and Yemen to manage contracts to benefit from the natural resources in their countries and improve their economies.
