Afghanistan Government Procurement Agreement and Procurement Dispute Settlement Workshop

From May 7-11, CLDP and USAID, together with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), held a workshop in Colombo, Sir Lanka for a group of government procurement specialists from Afghanistan, including the Director General of the National Procurement Authority of Afghanistan (NPA). 

Throughout the program, WTO and EBRD experts introduced the Afghan procurement specialists to several important topics, including the benefits of joining the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA) and the process and requirements for joining the GPA.  The program also focused on the benefits of establishing a domestic dispute settlement body, as well as settling disputes before the WTO.  At the conclusion of the week-long program, the Afghan procurement specialists prepared a list of needs and next-steps related to NPA’s goal of joining the GPA, including identifying specific topics for future programming.

On July 20, 2018, CLDP, in coordination with the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, “Sakpatenti,” conducted a one-day training for 27 Georgian journalists and other representatives of the media in Batumi, Georgia. Judge Bernice Donald, U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Judge Oliver Schön of the District Court of Munich led the training and provided a general overview of intellectual property law, highlighting recent trends and developments in the U.S. and the E.U.
