Dominican Republic: CLDP Conducts Webinar on Detecting Anti-Competitive Practices in the Procurement Market (Phase I)

-

On June 3-5, 2020, CLDP, in cooperation with the Competition Council, the General Directorate for Public Contracting (DGCP) in the Dominican Republic (DR), the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ), and the U.S. GSA, conducted a series of 2-hour webinars on best practices in detecting and investigating anti-competitive practices in procurement for 25 Dominican government officials. The webinar, held in Spanish, included an overview of the U.S. framework for antitrust enforcement by trial attorneys from the USDOJ’s Antitrust Division, an overview of procurement concepts, an effective procurement lifecycle by a GSA expert, and methods for improving communication between contracting personnel and prosecutors to enhance detection and investigation efforts. This three-part series of webinars aims to strengthen the Dominican government’s capacity to correctly identify and prosecute anti-trust practices in a country where such practices are prevalent.
