ITA presents the basics of short supply textiles provisions of the CAFTA-DR.

On July 30, CLDP distributed a multi-part webinar series on textile and apparel provisions of the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) to resident experts in Central America’s Northern Triangle. Initial sessions in the series provide an overview of the interconnected issues that must be understood and addressed to strengthen El Salvador’s textile and apparel industry including effective utilization of the CAFTA-DR, implementing effective marketing strategies, strengthening supply chain management, proactively developing products, and sustaining the industry’s competitive advantage through higher education. The technical sessions explore textile and apparel provisions including rules of origin, verification procedures, and short supply to enable participants to understand the requirements and benefits from the Agreement. In the final sessions, experts work through dynamic case studies and engage the participants in fruitful discussions to assist in resolving real-time issues confronting both industry and government representatives. The sessions aim to strengthen the industry’s understanding and utilization of the CAFTA-DR to enhance the regional supply chain. As a result of these sessions, industry representatives from the Northern Triangle will be better able to utilize the CAFTA-DR to source inputs within the region and enhance export opportunities along the regional supply chain, thereby increasing economic growth and development for the region.
