On May 9-11, CLDP conducted a judicial training workshop on international sales contracts for a senior delegation of Iraqi appellate and commercial court judges.  The delegation included judges from seven different provinces, including judges from the commercial courts in Baghdad and Muthana.The workshop faculty was led by two US Federal Judges, Judge Jed Rakoff and Judge Martin Glenn of the Southern District of New York in addition to Don DeAmicis, former General Counsel of OPIC. The faculty provided the judges with an overview of the applicable international treaties, practices and principles for adjudicating international sales disputes, including the UN Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG). 
This workshop is part of CLDP’s multi-phase program to strengthen Iraq’s specialized commercial courts through trainings and exchanges between US Federal Judges and Iraqi commercial court judges. This workshop is the fourteenth event since 2010, when the first commercial court was established in Baghdad. Since 2010, four commercial courts have been established including a new court in Samawa this year.
