Telecommunications Dispute Resolution Consultation - Phase II

-
CLDP experts assisted Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority(NTRA) in its efforts to create transparent and efficient dispute resolution procedures to handle disputes that will dramatically increase in the recently liberalized Egyptian telecom market. During this second of three phases, two CLDP advisors returned Egypt to assist the NTRA officials with drafting a set of telecom dispute resolution procedures. Once created, the draft will be circulated to the NTRA leadership for their revision and comment. This phase follows an initial consultative trip, where the CLDP advisors gave the NTRA officials an overview of telecom dispute resolution principles, provided some insight into the types of disputes Egypt is facing and will likely face, and met with representatives from the Egyptian judiciary, Cairo Arbitration Center, private sector and consumer affairs to discuss a wide range of issues concerning telecom dispute resolution. In the upcoming third phase of the program, the CLDP advisors will return to review the revised draft and provide recommendations for its implementation.
