CLDP, in conjunction with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), hosted a delegation from Georgia's National Intellectual Property Center (Sakpatenti) in Washington, D.C., May 10-13, 2010. The four-person delegation attended a specialized program designed by USPTO to help Sakpatenti launch an e-filing system for patents and trademarks. Sakpatenti Director General Irakli Gvaladze met with USPTO Director David Kappos to discuss areas of cooperation. The Sakpatenti officials also met with the U.S. Copyright Office, to discuss policy, procedures and their e-filing system. The second phase of the program will take place in September 2010 when USPTO officials will travel to Tbilisi, Georgia to provide additional technical assistance in the administration of an e-filing database as well as to conduct patent and trademark examination trainings.
