Faculty Workshop to Establish a Legal Research and Writing Course at Qatar University

CLDP held meetings with Qatar University College of Law Faculty to assist in creating and implementing a new course for law students on legal research and writing, which are essential skills for Qatar's future lawyers to support business transactions an the economic rule of law. This event is the second phase of a two-phase project.

Fostering an Effective Competition Culture in Egypt

During the week of November 16, 2008 CLDP held a workshop in Cairo for 150 attendees that explained the challenges and solutions in developing the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) to a broad group of stakeholders.

Consultations on Consumer Protection Law and Policy

In support of the mandate of the Egyptian Consumer Protection Agency, CLDP organized a two-week consultative visit to the US and Mexico for sixteen (16) Egyptian officials to meet with their U.S. and Mexican counterparts to discuss, inter alia, policies, regulations, procedures and practices relating to the consumer protection law framework and public/private sector coordination for protecting consumer rights.

Agribusiness Sourcing Consultations

In response to the request by the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Commerce, CLDP organized a week-long program in the US for officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Commerce as well as representatives from the Moroccan agribusiness associations. The program focused on providing the participants with an overview of the US agribusiness industry.

Bankruptcy and Insolvency Workshop

In conjunction with the Bahrain Legal and Judicial Studies Institute and the Bahraini Ministry of Justice, CLDP conducted a two-day workshop on Bankruptcy and Insolvency in Bahrain. Two U.S. federal bankruptcy judges traveled with CLDP staff to Manama to lead the workshop.

CLDP conducted a week of faculty consultations and interactive workshops to help Sultan Qaboos University College of Law and Qatar University College of Law establish international commercial arbitration programs centered on participation in an international competition (or moot).

Egyptian Competition Authority Senior Economist at FTC Fellows Program

Through the support and recommendation of the Commercial Law Development Program, the Senior Economist of the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) was accepted as a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) International Fellow worked in Washington DC from mid September 2008 until mid December 2008 in the FTC Bureau of Competition, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Bureau of Economics, Office of Policy Planning, Office of International Affairs, and Office of General Counsel.
