CLDP and DOJ Organize Consultations for the Algerian Judiciary on Fighting Cybercrimes

-

From January 27-31, CLDP and the Department of Justice (DOJ) organized consultations in Washington, DC for Algerian judges and prosecutors. The program focused on practical ways to fight cybercrimes, from the collection of evidence to sentencing. These consultations are the second phase of a judicial capacity-building program that started with a workshop held by CLDP in Algeria in June and July 2013.

This train-the trainers program, designed and conducted in close collaboration with DOJ's Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) and Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance & Training (OPDAT), included 16 participants from Algeria's Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior. This phase of the program centered on effective cooperation between the United States and Algeria in fighting international cybercrime groups and involved case studies created by CLDP and CCIPS.

This program is part of CLDP’s continued technical assistance to Algeria and is funded by the US Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). With its focus on combating and adjudicating cybercrime, this program addresses key MEPI priorities by (1) strengthening the effective use of information technology in Algeria and (2) improving the cyber-security environment, a critical factor for small and medium enterprise (SME) development and economic growth.
