Since the signing of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement, CLDP has been providing technical assistance to Oman to meet imminent obligations under the FTA.  Under the second phase of a program to support Oman's efforts to develop an Advance Rulings system for customs inquiries, 9 officials from the Royal Omani Police Directorate General of Customs (ROP Customs) participated in consultations in the U.S. from January 11 - 19, 2012.  To familiarize themselves with the U.S. Advance Rulings system, the delegation spent a week consulting with the CBP offices in Washington, DC, Newark, NJ, and New York, NY charged with receiving and responding to ruling requests prior to importation and studying the electronic database of rulings available to the general public.  Additionally, the group met with representatives from the private sector to better understand the role of Advance Rulings in the trade community.
