Egyptian Competition Authority Senior Economist at FTC Fellows Program

Through the support and recommendation of the Commercial Law Development Program, the Senior Economist of the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) was accepted as a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) International Fellow worked in Washington DC from mid September 2008 until mid December 2008 in the FTC Bureau of Competition, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Bureau of Economics, Office of Policy Planning, Office of International Affairs, and Office of General Counsel.

Competition Law in Egypt

Since 2006, CLDP, in cooperation with the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department, has provided technical assistance to the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) to help implement the new competition law and foster a competition culture in Egypt.

CLDP and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration, in cooperation with the UAE institute of Training and Judicial Studies and the UAE Ministry of Justice, organized a two day conference for judges on implementation of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.

CLDP organized a three day workshop May 26-28, 2008 at the Qatar Legal and Judicial Studies Center focused on bankruptcy, the role of mediation, and the process of reorganizing businesses.

New E-commerce Law in Oman

Beginning in 2006, CLDP has worked with the Oman Information Technology Authority (ITA) on the development of the Electronic Transaction Law in Oman. CLDP's legislative e-commerce drafting programs provided officials with guidance and practical experience in the development of effective e-commerce laws for the modern global economy.

Food Safety in SE Europe

In recent years, CLDP’s Southeast Europe Initiative program has assisted the countries of Southeast Europe, under the auspices of the Stability Pact, to develop a legal/business environment better suited to attract increased trade and investment. In addition to assistance with trade liberalization, resulting in the new Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), CLDP has primarily focused on working towards the removal of arbitrary non-tariff barriers to trade. Specifically, CLDP has assisted the regional coordination of WTO standards relating to the Customs Agreement and the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement.

Merger Notification and Procedures
