U.S. Study Tour for Egyptian Commercial Attaches

Over a two-week period in Washington, DC and New York, NY, 15 Egyptian commercial attachés met with various USG officials, professional associations, and private sector representatives to discuss trade promotion and policy and foreign investment issues.

The Judiciary and SMEs that Encounter Temporary Difficulties

With the expansion of the Jordanian economy, judges are facing increasingly more complex cases having to do with small and medium sized enterprises. Jordan is working to reform some of the commercial law to reflect the new business environment, and CLDP is helping to prepare judges in their new roles. The three-day workshop organized by CLDP focused on bankruptcy, the role of mediation, and the process of reorganizing businesses.

Middle East and North Africa Businesswomen's Summit 2006

CLDP attended the MENA Businesswomen's Summit 2006 and added legal components to the Summit agenda, supporting the role of women lawyers in the Middle East. CLDP advisors offered sessions on international trade law, international Trade agreements, and corporate law to support the legal knowledge and acumen of businesswomen throughout the MENA region.

Workshop on E-Commerce Fundamentals and Regional Perspective

In September 2006, CLDP in conjunction with the American Bar Association, the Arab Council for Judicial and Legal Studies, and the Bahrain Ministry of Justice presented a regional conference focused on training judges regarding the adjudication of electronic commerce disputes.

Workshop and Public Awareness Seminars on Abuse of Dominance with the Egyptian Competition Authority

The 3 day workshop for Egyptian Competition Authority staff took place on September 10-12, 2006. Approximately 40 participants reviewed case studies and competition strategies with 2 legal and economic experts from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and one economist from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Commercial Code Advising in Qatar

CLDP provides additional assistance to the Qatar Ministry of Economy and Commerce as well as the New Commercial Code Committee in Qatar to continue to assist Qatar in revising its commercial code to comply with international standards. In the area of company and electronic commerce laws, CLDP intends to introduce Bahrain examples to assist in the development of laws in Qatar that comply with international commercial law standards.
