GCC Commercial Law Drafting Program

On May 19-23 2014, CLDP in coordination with the University of Washington School of Law Sustainable Legal Development Faculty, will be conducting a Commercial Law Drafting Program for a group of lawyers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Seattle, Washington. The program will focus on commercial law topics such as insolvency, company, arbitration, competition/consumer protection, lending, and secured transactions.

UAE: CLDP holds Roundtable for Moroccan, Bahraini, and Yemeni Officials on Insolvency Reform

On March 17, CLDP held a one-day workshop in Dubai for delegations from Yemen, Morocco, and Bahrain made up of judges, government officials, private sector representatives, and legal advisors on the implementation of insolvency legislation using international best practices.

CLDP Participates in 'First Intellectual Property Forum' with Brand Owners' Protection Group

On December 12, CLDP participated in the 'First Intellectual Property Forum: Towards Fair and Safe Trade'.  The event was hosted by the Dubai Economic Council and the Brand Owners' Protection Group, a non-profit organization which focuses on engaging the business community, consumers, media and interaction/collaboration with authorities to raise awareness and encourage a better brand protection environment across the Gulf Region.

Third Annual Middle East Vis Pre-Moot Brings Together Students from Across the Region

The Third Annual Middle East Pre-Moot International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, took place February 13-14, 2013. The Vis Middle East Pre-Moot was organized by the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA) with support from CLDP and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law’s Center for International Legal Education (CILE). This competition brought together students, professors and deans from the University of Bahrain, the University of Baghdad, Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, United Arab Emirates University, Faculty of Legal Political and Social Sciences of Tunis, University of Jordan, and Dar Al Hekma Law College from Saudi Arabia. Legal practitioners from the local, regional and international legal community took place as arbitrators and provided the students with important feedback to help them to continue to improve their arguments for the final competition which will take place in Vienna, Austria on March 23-28, 2013.

Bahrain, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Tunisia and Jordan Compete in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Austria

After their successful participation in the Second Annual Willem C. Vis Middle East International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot, which took place February 27-March 1, 2012 in Oman, teams from Bahrain, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Tunisia, and Jordan traveled to Vienna, Austria in March to compete in the Vis Moot.
