Pakistan: CLDP Conducts IP Judicial Workshop

On December 4-5, CLDP, in close cooperation with USPTO and the Continuing Legal Education Institute of Pakistan, held an intellectual property workshop in Karachi, Pakistan, for IP Tribunal Presiding Officers and select District and Session Court judges identified as likely to be assigned to IP Tribunals in the near future.

Bahrain: CLDP Attorney Speaks on Importance of IPR

On November 14 and 15, CLDP Attorney-Advisor Arezo Yazd spoke on the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) and strengthening IPR regimes to promote entrepreneurship in Bahrain. Ms. Yazd spoke at the Bahrain Businesswomen Society Annual Forum, gathering 300 participants from across the Middle East, on how women entrepreneurs can protect their IPR. As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, CLDP also spoke at the Bahrain Stock Exchange on IPR and new technologies. CLDP’s IP programming in Bahrain seeks to protect the IPR of local and international companies and spur innovation.

CLDP Trains Law Students for International Arbitration Competition and meets with US Ambassador Cormack

On October 27-29, CLDP led a three-day training for law schools in Bosnia-Herzegovina to support the first phase of its Willem C. Vis Moot Competition (Vis Moot) program.. The program aimed to prepare law students to compete in the 2018 Vis Moot to be held in March 2018 in Vienna. Participants included coaches and students from six different law schools in Bosnia-Herzegovina included schools from various regions of the country that had never participated before in the international competition.

West Bank: CLDP Conducts Conference on Palestinian Innovation Ecosystem and the Role of Universities

On October 24-25, 2017, CLDP hosted a conference in Ramallah, West Bank, that brought together local stakeholders to identify policy and regulatory reforms that would support the growth of Palestinian technology startups. Representatives from Stanford University, Louisiana State University, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shared best practices in technology incubation and commercialization to help Palestinian universities protect their intellectual property, while ensuring research breakthroughs can fuel innovation and job growth in the private sector. At the conclusion of the conference, participants compiled a list of key recommendations, including the need to conduct network mapping to identify relevant partners within the local ecosystem, to increase engagement among Palestinian stakeholders in order to foster the development of an entrepreneurial culture and community, and to expand intellectual property and business development curriculum at the university level, including practical job training opportunities for young Palestinians. Conference participants included Palestinian entrepreneurs, academics, business leaders, and government stakeholders. The conference sought to identify policy and regulatory reforms that will help propel growth of Palestinian businesses, as part of the broader U.S. Government effort tosupport a thriving economy and create real opportunities for Palestinians.

CLDP, in cooperation with the Higher Commercial Court of Ukraine (HCC), and the U.S. Federal Judicial Center (FJC) held a week long Consultative Visit on Utilization of Judicial IP Benchbook.
