Laurie Morgan

Attorney-Advisor (International)

Laurie Morgan is an Attorney-Advisor (International) with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Her overseas work focuses on economic security in Europe. Ms. Morgan has extensive experience assisting foreign governments in developing new investment screening mechanisms to protect domestic economies from malign economic influence. 

Prior to joining CLDP, Ms. Morgan worked as an attorney on cybersecurity and privacy matters on some of the world’s largest transactions with Freshfields, a global law firm, in New York. During her time at Freshfields, Ms. Morgan also worked in the Dispute Resolution practice conducting foreign investigations related to alleged corruption and money laundering. She also worked on public international law matters, covering topics such as sustainable finance, international animal law, migration, and the prosecution of war crimes.

Ms. Morgan received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where she was a Global Law Scholar. She received her B.A. in International Justice (Public International Law) from Leiden University College in The Hague, The Netherlands.  

Ms. Morgan is admitted to practice law in New Jersey. She speaks Dutch at an intermediate (B1) level.
