Nisrine Hilizah

Nisrine Hilizah is an International Program Specialist with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce. She primarily works on programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on various commercial initiatives in the region. These efforts aim to promote African economic integration and strengthen trade and investment ties with the United States.

Before joining CLDP, Ms. Hilizah served as a Program Support Specialist with The Carter Center’s Conflict Resolution Program, where she focused on conflict resolution programming and promoting youth democratic participation in Sudan. Prior to that, she was awarded a David L. Boren Fellowship to study Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan Darija in Rabat, Morocco. She is also a three-time recipient of the U.S. Department of State's Critical Language Scholarship for the study of Arabic.

Born in Khartoum, Sudan, to South Sudanese parents, Ms. Hilizah grew up in Tennessee. She earned a B.A. in International & Global Studies, with a minor in Women’s & Gender Studies, from Sewanee: The University of the South. She also holds an M.A. in Arab Studies and a certificate in Refugees, Forced Migration, & Humanitarian Emergencies from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Ms. Hilizah is fluent in Arabic, proficient in Spanish, and has working knowledge of German.
