As part of CLDP's ongoing assistance ot the Iraqi judiciary to develop its new specialized commercial courts, CLDP organized a consultation in Dubai from April 22-26 on case management, alternative dispute resolution, the enforcement of arbitral awards and service of process in commercial cases. The agenda was developed in close cooperation between the Dubai courts, retired US business court judges and Iraqi commercial court judges. This cadre of experts featured Judge Ben Tennille, retired business court judge and founder of North Carolina's first business court, Judge Steven Platt, retired business court judge in Maryland, and the chief judge of the Dubai commercial court. The program was designed to address challenges facing Iraq's nascent commercial courts by providing 15 Iraqi judges from botht he trial and appellate levels with an opportunity to learn from the experiences of US business courts and the Dubai commercial courts to develop recommendations for updating Iraq's court procedures and case management systems to conform with international best practices.
