As part of CLDP’s programming in the UAE to assist in the development of new commercial laws in the country, CLDP led a delegation from the UAE Institute of Training and Judicial Studies (ITJS) in judicial training consultations in Washington, DC and New York, NY from November 7-12.

The ITJS judges met with representatives from the Federal Judicial Center, Administrative Office of the US Courts, US Supreme Court, US Bankruptcy Court, the US Court of International Trade, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, and the World Bank International Finance Corporation.  The consultations covered topics such as insolvency and arbitration laws, as well as administrative issues of judicial education such as distance learning for judges.  In light of the UAE’s recently acquired seat on the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, CLDP and ITJS judges also met with federal prosecutors from the New York County District Attorney’s Office, who advised on topics such as human rights prosecution procedure, trafficking statutes, and other issues relevant to the UAE’s human rights endeavors. This judicial training program will promote the development of successful insolvency and arbitration legal regime, encouraging entrepreneurship and protecting foreign investment in the UAE. CLDP's support for the consultations was part of CLDP's ongoing cooperative relationship with the ITJS.
