CLDP, in coordination with the United States Telecommunications Training Institute (USTTI), sponsored the participation of five officials from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority and the Ministry of Information Technology to attend a series of courses on telecommunications regulation. The courses, attended by officials from a number of developing countries, provide an opportunity for all participants to learn and exchange information.

The specific courses are ‘Introduction to Rule of Law’ (June 10-19, 2015), ‘Managing Effectively in the Changing Telecommunications Environment’ (July 10-17, 2015), ‘Policy and Regulation Sequence’ (July 16-31, 2015), and ‘Mobile Broadband’ (July 30-August 19, 2015). The courses provide perspective on the policy underpinnings and an understanding of the challenges and impact of regulating a fast moving, highly converged, connected society.

This program is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s technical assistance to the Government of Pakistan in the areas of energy, intellectual property and commercial law education and implementation, including those in the information and communications technology  (ICT) sector.  This is the first of five USTTI courses between June and September for which CLDP is making Pakistani participation possible.  The USTTI a public-private, non-profit partnership dedicated to sharing knowledge in the Information and communications technology (ICT) sector knowledge with women and men dedicated to making modern communications a reality throughout the developing world.  Volunteer ICT experts from industry and government lead the courses.
