Following on several training programs and workshops for the newly organized Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA), CLDP sponsored the participation of legal and economic staff from the ECA to attend a workshop on Antitrust and Economics to be held from May 13-16, 2008 in Washington, DC. The seminar aws held by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. The seminar began with an overview of basic microeconomic theory and then turn to more detailed lectures addressing topics such as theories of harm in merger and unilateral conduct cases, remedies, and empirical tools of analysis. The seminar consisted principally of lectures, but will also include smaller break-out sessions during which hypothetical cases will be analyzed. The seminar concluded with an interactive session of the common pitfalls encountered by staffs during antitrust investigations.
