On December 14-15, 2022 CLDP and the Armenian Competition Protection Commission (CPC) held a workshop on Anticompetitive Agreements and Mergers in Regulated Sectors to further develop CPC’s capacity in these critical areas of competition law enforcement. The Workshop brought CPC officials involved in competition enforcement together with subject matter experts from the relevant U.S. competition law authorities, including the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. The Workshop included presentations by U.S. experts covering an overall approach and technical aspects of mergers and anticompetitive agreement enforcement, as well as unique aspects of enforcement in regulated sectors. Experts also conducted interactive case studies to further illustrate and cement best practices. Telecommunications provided a lens of focus for the workshop as a regulated sector in Armenia that is actively grappling with competition issues. CPC also presented overviews of the current state of competition enforcement in Armenia to allow for more targeted capacity building by the assembled experts. By the conclusion of the Workshop, program participants had a greater understanding of the challenges, solutions, and best practices for Armenian competition law in regulated sectors.
