At the behest of the U.S. embassy in Egypt, CLDP is conducting a capacity building program for Egyptian commercial attachés. The objective of this program is to increase the attachés' capacity to boost Egypt's exports, attract foreign investment into Egypt, and help form joint-ventures between Egyptian firms and foreign firms.

The core of this program was supposed to be two weeks of consultations in the USA. Because of the pandemic, and until international travel resumes, CLDP has organized a series of webinars on topics or particular importance for the Egyptian commercial attachés. One such topic is the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) under which certain Egyptian goods can enter the US duty free. The U.S. GSP system is administered by USTR. On  September 29, 2020, CLDP organized for the Egyptian commercial attachés a GSP webinar focused on “Egypt’s Exports to the USA and the GSP Program”.

Ms. Laura Buffo, USTR's Deputy Assistant Trade Representative for GSP and Ms. Claudia Chlebek, Director GSP, USTR, gave a presentation and answered questions. Because of the importance of this topic, CLDP, with USTR's assistance created GSP exercises that the Egyptian commercial attachés will prepare for a second GSP session that will take place on October 21,2020.
