Through the support and recommendation of the Commercial Law Development Program, the Senior Economist of the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) was accepted as a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) International Fellow worked in Washington DC from mid September 2008 until mid December 2008 in the FTC Bureau of Competition, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Bureau of Economics, Office of Policy Planning, Office of International Affairs, and Office of General Counsel. As a part of the FTC Fellows Program, the ECA Senior Economist participated in investigations and enforcement actions with FTC attorneys, investigators, and economists. The ECA representative gained a first hand appreciation of the practices and approaches that the FTC uses in its enforcement mission, while also sharing insights into Egypt's approaches. The ECA staff person will return to Egypt and share the learning with ECA staff, apply the experience to ECA work, and help improve cross border cooperation with the relationships developed with the FTC Fellows from other countries.
