What made you want to become an attorney?

I became an attorney because I couldn’t resist the combined calling of the Rule of Law and Critical Thinking. 

Why did you choose a career in international development?

I am in awe of women in developing countries – their leadership, their resilience, and their courage. I used to work with women indigenous leaders, and they became my heroes – nowhere else have I seen such selflessness and hard work - I wanted to be part of their fight against inequality and abuse as well as their journey into empowerment and their contribution to economic growth.

What do you find most gratifying about your work at CLDP?

We are able to see firsthand the impact of the work that we do – we see laws and regulations being passed as a result of technical assistance we provided, new measures being adopted, the number of SMEs rising, and companies being rescued from bankruptcy. We are able to witness how those efforts directly contribute to economic and political stability.

What does women’s economic empowerment mean to you?

It means the difference between life and death, a woman’s ability to feed and educate her children, the resources to escape violence. A woman with an income is able to protect her family and plan for the future. Her contribution is essential to resolving our world’s toughest challenges.
